Gallery NOW is pleased to present “A Message from Ryoji Koie” from May 9 (Thu) to May 25 (Sat), 2024.
While producing craft works such as tea bowls and pots, Ryoji Koie was also influenced by Kazuo Yagi and others in the Kyoto-based avant-garde ceramics group “Sodeisha” and moved toward the production of objets d’art.
Gradually, these objects evolved into works that conveyed a message to society. While asking himself the question, “What is pottery?”, Koie created his own unique world of expression by firing various objects and materials, including sewing machines, clocks, clay from Inokashira Pond, steel plates, aluminum, glass, shelves, and stones.
We hope you will receive the message left by Ryoji Koie, who passed away on August 6, 2020, at the age of 82.
