Shuzo Takiguchi

1903 Born in Otsuka, Sane Village, Fugui County, Toyama Prefecture (present-day Otsuka, Toyama City)
1923 Entered Keio University, Faculty of Letters, Preliminary Course.
1926 Joined “Yamayu”, a coterie magazine of Taro Tominaga, Tatsuo Hori, and others. Receives new revelations from Rimbaud and Breton and is taught by Professor Junzaburo Nishiwaki.
1928 First issue of the Surrealist journal “The Sun of Costume” published.
1931 Graduated from Keio University with a degree in English Literature
1932 Joins PCL and works there for about 5 years
1938: Published “Kindai Geijutsu” (Modern Art). During the period around this time, he was actively involved in educational activities, introducing avant-garde art, translating, and contributing to magazines.
1941: Arrested by special police and detained for about 8 months.
1945: His house burns down, and the war ends in Kanazawa.
1947 Formed the Tokyo Avant-Garde Art Club.
1951 Opened the Takemiya Gallery. Inauguration of the Experimental Studio. Planned and created the scenario for the first film “Hokusai” by the Art Film Study Group.
1960 Held first solo exhibition “From My Art Book” at Nantenko Gallery.
1962 Immersed himself in decalcomania and held his third solo exhibition, “My Heart Chronicles the Time,” at Minami Gallery.
1965: Appointed as a special counsel for Genpei Akasegawa in his 1,000-yen bill lawsuit.
1967 Published “Poetic Experiments 1927-1939”.
1968 Publishes “Marcel Duchamp’s Words”.
1969 Collaborates with Miró on a collection of poems and drawings entitled “Handmade Proverbs
1972 Contributed “Kyoka Shikansho” to Yukio Nakagawa’s collection “Hana” (Flower) Yukio Nakagawa’s collection was published in 1977 and “Kyoka Shikansho” appeared in it.
1973 Attends the Duchamp retrospective at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, despite being ill
1975 Published “Matter’s Gaze”, a collection of poems and drawings with Tàpies
1979 Dies of myocardial infarction on July 1 at Kawai Hospital in Shinjuku, Tokyo at age 75
2024 “Surrealism Exhibition” at Centre Georges Pompidou, France
